Pipal
The Ficus religiosa, commonly known as the sacred fig, is a fig tree native to the Indian subcontinent and Indochina. It belongs to the Moraceae family, which includes figs and mulberries. This tree is also called the bodhi tree, pipale tree, peepul tree, the pipal tree, ashvattha tree, or Asathu in Sinhala. Wikipedia
The use of pipal medicinal properties in many incurable diseases is described in Ayurveda, a sub-Veda of the Atharva Veda. The Peepal tree is called the ‘cup tree’ because of its medicinal properties. Its bark, leaves, fruits, seeds, etc., all the ingredients of Peepal can be used in treating all kinds of patients.
Pipal is considered nectar in the Hindu religion. Since it contains much oxygen, it is also known as the storage of vital air. It is believed that there will be no shortage of oxygen if you sleep with peepal leaves under your head.
Significations of Peepal/Pipale
- Pipals have a special role in protecting the environment and purifying the air. Due to its various medicinal properties, it is worshipped as a cure. Var-peepal has been mentioned in Ayurveda as an infallible medicine for various diseases.
- Peepal is very useful for respiratory problems. Regular intake of peepal bark by making powder or mixing its leaves with milk is beneficial for respiratory and asthma patients.
- One spoonful of raw peepal leaf juice in the morning and evening will cure stomach gas accumulation and constipation.
- Peepal leaf and bark powder can be mixed with toothpaste and used. It strengthens teeth and cures dental diseases.
- Peepal is beneficial for ringworm dryness of the skin.
- Var Peepal leaves are helpful for colds and various wounds on the body.
- Peepal leaves are rich in antioxidants. Hence, eating soft leaves helps in reducing stress. Var-peepal root soaked in water and applied to the skin gives it shine and relieves various problems.
